Based in Pesaro, Italy, and founded in 1982, the Ser Jacopo workshop has a long-standing reputation for innovation when it comes to Italian pipe making. The founder of Ser Jacopo, Giancarlo Guidi, defied convention when he established his workshop and began producing pipes that diverged from the Anglo-French shape-chart classics, instead drawing inspiration from fine art, and even daily life on the island of Pesaro. Until his passing in 2012, Guidi experimented with playful proportions and bold finishes, paving the way for a new style of pipe making that's still beloved today.

Bearing seven "Maxima" stamps out of a possible nine, this Dublin is among some of the largest offerings to come from the Italian marque. It's an incredibly imposing mass of briar, and perfect for the smoker looking to settle in with their favorite blend for the better part of a day. The bowl boasts a chamber depth of nearly 2.5 inches, and its thick, insulating walls and plateau-crowned rim show off a plethora of gorgeous grain. It's a rare feat to find a block of briar that's both massive and devoid of any major flaws, so bringing this piece to life was no small task (pun intended.) An extensive shank and sleek, concise saddle stem complete the composition, offering more than enough space to comfortably drape a digit — or three — and reducing the arm movement required to raise this hefty pipe to the palate. Dressed in a craggy sandblast and an earthy chestnut stain, this Dublin has a rustic aura about it that's quite fitting for such a heartily proportioned piece.
