About This Pipe
It shouldn't come as a surprise that when we made special requests to over a dozen American artisans for one bamboo-bearing composition each that would be highlighted on our website, that many of them produced designs that were in some way unusual. Alex Florov made us a sitter Cavalier, for example, while Walt Cannoy produced a piece that also doubled as part of his Meerschaum Collection. As for Scott, he sent our way a Pierced Blowfish, which so far is the only pierced-theme design we've ever seen from him.
The bowl, taken just by itself, readily shows similarities to Scott's more recent Blowfish designs, which have been strong on defining the flank-panels with a sweeping, high-profile roll to their bordering ridges. Take into count the transition and curve of the false-shank "tail" however, and the closest thing I would compare it to, in terms of Klein's previous work, is an inverted variation on his Jumping Fish - even though that itself was based around an inverted Volcano form.
