Smooth Tomato Reverse Calabash Tobacco Pipe

While the Calabash uses a hollowed horn shape, usually a gourd grown to a specific shape, with a removable bowl that sits within it — effectively creating a second chamber under the bowl that condenses and cools the smoke before it moves on through the airway and to the stem, the reverse calabash uses a hollowed out shank to do the same thing. As this requires a much larger than usual shank, a "mirrored-bowl" theme has become something of a common element, whether that be a Billiard that sports a shank approaching the same dimensions as the bowl or, as seen here, an Apple shaped bowl with a second, hollowed out Apple shaped shank behind it.

Scott Klein seems to have taken to the shape with gusto, bringing the same attention to the reverse calabash-engineered shank and stem as he does to his usual exotic ferrule/cumberland stem combinations.
