About This Pipe
Though Kent Rasmussen is no stranger to pieces steeped in curve, it's curious to me that he hasn't produced all that many Blowfish renditions. Even more curious: here we are with two in the same batch. On top of that, this one seems to hew closest to the shape-chart archetype than any I've seen from him. Framed by a tight, sweeping ridge wrapping the entirety of the piece in profile, the form shows a sense of sculptural asymmetry, with a subtle disc-like panel to the left, and a pronounced, bulbous cheek to the right. The left showcases plenty of birdseye, countered by a lane of cross-grain at the heel, and with its upward-flicking shank and stem, it shows a little implied momentum to boot. A seriously cool rendition from Kent.
