About This Pipe

Peterson's "307" is one of the marque's largest bent Billiard designs within the System series and does an exceptional job at showcasing the marque's robust and muscular approach to shaping, especially in the proportions of its shank and transition. The stout insulating walls of the bowl fill the hand effortlessly, while the generously bent stem still allows it to be comfortably clenched. Its staunch, substantial disposition coupled with the Irish firm's patented System engineering results in a bold take on the shape chart standard and one that's unmistakably the signature work of one of pipedom's most respected and legendary companies.

Peterson's System pipe is one of the Irish marque's most celebrated and historic innovations, boasting patents dating back to 1890. The System is comprised of three aspects: an army mount, internal condensation reservoir, and the graduated bore P-Lip mouthpiece (though Peterson does offer fishtail versions to accommodate smokers' preferences). Being the only externally visible of the three components, the military mount allows the pipe to be broken down even while hot, reinforcing the shank. The other two parts, the internal reservoir and graduated bore, are found within the pipe itself — both working in tandem to remove moisture from the smoke. Such a construction requires a slightly different process when cleaning a System pipe, and results in a more flavorful, drier smoke. The System Standard line features a sturdy nickel army mount and is presented here in a dark-stained rustication, offering plenty of stimulating texture in a traditional color palette. The System series is a testament to Peterson's influence on the pipe industry at large, and its continued popularity over the past 100-plus years bespeaks the company's reputation for quality.

A Lifesaver in High Humidity

Product: Peterson System Standard Rusticated (307) P-Lip
If you live in a climate with high ambient humidity, this pipe is not a luxury—it’s a mechanical necessity. The 307 is a beautifully stout, muscular bent billiard that clenches easily despite its size, but the real magic is inside the shank.

I recently smoked this outside in heavy, muggy air
that would have completely ruined a session in a standard briar. The built-in moisture reservoir did exactly what it was engineered to do: it pulled the heavy condensation clean out of the airstream and locked it away. While the air was heavy enough that I had to toss the very bottom dottle a bit early, the first two-thirds of the bowl were perfectly cool, dry, and clean. When I took it apart to clean it, the trap was soaking wet—proving that the pipe captured moisture that otherwise would have ended up in my mouth. A brilliant piece of classic engineering....Read More
