About This Pipe

A stunning example of craftsmanship and deft shaping, this hybrid of Pot and Canadian showcases Manduela's oft-seen style of especially compact and petite pipes. The elongated shank and abbreviated stem make for deceptive pictures, the piece appearing larger than it actually is — in reality, it measures in at under five inches long, and weighing barely 22 grams, it's a featherweight iteration of beautiful Danish shaping, the diminutive size making Manduela's skill in the workshop all the more impressive. The spot-on shaping belies the piece's overall size: The pinched shank runs arrow straight through the lower bowl, contributing to a slightly firmer heel than would be typical of the classic Danish school, as the flanks taper softly toward the rim. It's all streaked, then, with flame grain, traveling along the rounded flanks of the shank before completely enveloping the bowl. Well highlighted by an auburn contrast stain, the warm-hued grain contrasts against the yellow boxwood accent at the stem base.
