About This Pipe
This sitter I would hazard to guess is Tokutomi-inspired. It's not so much a matter of a specific Toku shape, but rather a general theme, since Tokutomi has made similar arrangements that were Blowfish, Vases, Acorns, and Dublins. Li's take, though quite Dublin-like, reminds me most of Toku's Vase version: very smooth, very clean, and though deep of transition and bend still trim. Zhesong's done a very fine job with balanced asymmetry, teardrop shank rolling right while the dome-rimmed bowl falls left, and the great saturation of the contrast stain, combined with dense grain, gives the whole piece an interesting smokey, dappled effect.
