About This Pipe
Jody Davis' talents go far beyond the world of music, as the American artist has also created a name for himself in the pipe industry. Following suit with many pipe artisans within the U.S., his pieces are often more muscular and sturdy, however, he is known to put a Danish spin on his silhouettes. This Volcano is a great example of both shaping cues, with robust features combined with a Danish-style curvature. Up front, the classically inclined bowl sits atop a full-bodied heel, informed by a singular ridgeline wrapping the underside. From here, the walls of the bowl dramatically taper inward to an asymmetrical rim that peers into a compact tobacco chamber. A mid-set transition gives way to a subtly flaring shank accented with spalted platan at its base, the smooth wood juxtaposing the craggy sandblast dressing the remaining stummel. A bent saddle stem cut from jet-black vulcanite brings up the rear, its ebony hue complementing the dark stain of the shank and bowl.
