Smooth Bent Dublin with Mammoth (Cardinal) (A22) (52) Tobacco Pipe

American artisan Jody Davis has carved fine pipes for decades, cultivating a Danish-inflected style that helped popularize the shapes and features of that school in the contemporary American briar vernacular. This bent Dublin is an excellent and relatively uncommon example of Davis's work, having earned his coveted Cardinal grade designation. The bowl shape rests somewhere between a bent Dublin and Rhodesian, though it favors the Hibernian design. Said bowl features supple walls that taper down to a soft, rounded heel, capped above with a tapered rim delineated by a firm ridge, with a beveled rim encircled by a slim section of rugged plateau. Behind the elongated transition, a balanced round shank curves subtly upward to meet a bent vulcanite stem accented by a band of striated mammoth, creating a sleek, forward-urging silhouette with a sinuous S-curve out back. Dressed in a rich chestnut finish, the briar on display is phenomenal, featuring impeccable flame grain around the bowl that gives way to dense birdseye at the rim and heel.
