About This Pipe

With a particularly broad rim and steep taper, the bowl of this bent Dublin is quite the eye-catcher in its own right. Pair it to the low-profile line of an oval shank, as well as a crisp sandblast that brings out some dense, neatly-stacked growth rings around the bowl, and the result throws even more empahsis onto the lines of the bowl itself. It's all the work of Hans "Former" Nielsen, a man whose work has become iconic of the Danish movement through his use of minimalist linework and classic forms. While this might break somewhat free of that classical framework through its lithe, organic flow, it's the details that really shine — especially in the soft turn of the mouthpiece, hand-cut to accentuate the form perfectly, or the contrast stain of the smooth-polished rim, with its ability to show off the best of the briar's grain. Magnificent work.
