Sandblasted Churchwarden Pickaxe Tobacco Pipe

The Pickaxe shape is one that's represented extensively throughout the Danish pipe making canon, no doubt due to its inherent Art Deco style of sharp, tapering lines and trim, lithe proportions. Surprisingly, it's a form we don't often see from Tom Eltang, making this offering quite a welcome sight. However, what truly makes this particular piece stand out is that it's the first Churchwarden Pickaxe we've ever received from the Danish master, making it all the more special.

Embodying the Danish modernist ideal of liberating external elements from any support duty, its trim, slender proportions are just stunning, accentuating each defining line and taper within the composition. From the inflated rim, the bowl begins its gradual, precise taper toward the shape's characteristic pointed heel spur. Said spur sweeps backward in dramatic fashion, differing from the traditionally upright disposition most Pickaxe designs display. The sandblast is fairly light in its depth yet remains texturally intriguing, with the smooth rim providing some tasteful contrast and matching the trim band along the shank-end. The stummel is then paired to a willowy, gracefully bent vulcanite mouthpiece, which like Eltang's other stems, is cut for supreme smoking comfort. Measuring nearly 10 inches in overall length, this is an impressive Churchwarden from Eltang and showcases his stylistic range.
