Shell Briar (6401F) (2026) (9mm) Tobacco Pipe

This "6401F" Apple by Dunhill features an especially robust bowl with a supple heel and gentle taper to the rim that toes the line between Apple and Billiard. However, the thick, insulating walls offer the muscular in-hand feel and hearty weight traditional of the Apple bowl. Although the "01" is Dunhill's straight rendition of the Apple, the shank and stem arrangement presents a gracile bend courtesy of the "4" in its shape code, which culminates with a demure downturn at the bit — a sleek touch. Designated by the "F" stamping in its shape code, this piece has been drilled to accommodate 9mm filters, and it's dressed here in the crisp sandblast of the Shell Briar finish.

The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar.
