Sandblasted Pencil Shank Billiard (B) Tobacco Pipe

The color palette alone makes me happy. Its matte finish and contrast stain bring out the natural elements of the briar in an almost playful way, but make no mistake, this piece is all smoking instrument. Classically inspired, with an almost imperceptible tapering of the pencil shank, it places the visual weight on the bowl itself, which is curved in perfect, elegant lines. Growth rings are stacked on the bowl, rising from the heel to the rim, with birdseye centered at the heel. Though very light, the bowl walls are of a nice thickness and should offer a pleasant warmth in hand. Max Rimensi has long been on my radar, and pieces like this will undoubtedly wear down my resistance until a purchase becomes necessary.
