About This Pipe
Though Dirk generally has a penchant for more diminutive pieces, this bent Brandy is particularly petite. Proportionally, though, the German pipemaker has produced it perfectly. A firm base, from which the bowl gently tapers upwards, is the only sense of rigidity on the piece, with the rest of the form consisting entirely of gentle curves and organic lines. Even the merging of stem and shank-end displays an organic nature in the way the base of the stem appears to extend the end of the shank, as if they are one piece. The whole stummel, then, is wrapped up in a light sandblast, showing touches of ring grain, and a dark stain, accented only by the polished, lighter stained rim.
