About This Pipe

The Apple is among the most intuitive and organic of shapes, it's gentle natural curvature clearly eliciting comparisons to the fruit for which it is named. In this example from Jess Chonowitsch, the shape splendidly fills its proportions with angled vertical grain and tight birdseye in a honey-blonde hue that highlights the pristine nature of the briar. The shank is somewhat longer in this version than in previous iterations from the famed Danish carver, and reduces in diameter as it reaches to the saddle mouthpiece of jet-black vulcanite, which is gently downturned in a concise reversal of the upward-arced heel and forward flank.

The rim is inflated in a soft curve circling the tobacco chamber, contributing to the organic nature of the composition. At a mere 4.29 inches in length, it's a compactly proportioned version of the shape, though it maintains a firm presence in hand and a generous tobacco chamber for enjoying this remarkable composition during lengthy smoking sessions.
