About This Pipe
I've seen a straight Dublin from Jess that was similar to this one, but only one that I can remember. It too was a sleek looking number, imbued with a touch of forward cant to the bowl, though in the former piece's case, said bowl was also matched by a bit of rearward-rake, further accentuating that aforementioned sleekness. Here, Chonowitsch chose to allow the form to remain affably traditional, the subtle touch of cant matched by a softly-inflated, forward-gesturing rim, and the whole of it dressed in some of the finest feathery flame you're likely to find. Jess is certainly among the upper echelon of artisanal pipe makers worldwide, considered by many to be the greatest alive, and it's his minimalist, detail-oriented approach to shaping, paring away all superfluous aspects, which leads to magnificent pieces like this.
