About This Pipe
Coming in under five and a half inches from end to end, this is a much tighter-knit piece from Benni Jorgesen — albeit one which still showcases the Danish carver's signature sweeping gesture lent to the transition and shank. While most of Benni's work features this style of upward-arcing, lifting arrangement, it's typically much slower in visual progression, lending the silhouette an easy, graceful, and often sinuous aesthetic; here, however, that arc is compressed, and in turn made even sharper and more dramatic, playing well off the saddle shaped rim and softer lift to the heel. Fitting to such a dynamic form, Benni's finished this one in a deep crimson sandblast, showcasing the block's perfectly oriented ring grain climbing up the bowl in tight, dense undulations.
