About This Pipe
What impresses me most about Benni Jorgensen's designs is his ability to marry serious stoutness and substance with elegant, minimalist Danish lines. The result is a series of compositions that carry a heavy forward momentum in profile, yet maintain a definitive sense of balance overall. This bent Brandy is a fine example, with its extra-broad waistline and gentle taper up to the beveled rim lending the bowl itself the majority of the visual weight. Yet, that visual emphasis is followed by a smooth, upward-arcing line flowing across the underside — guiding the eye away from the bowl, up to the gently down-turned saddle stem. What we're left with is a voluptuous briar with a stout feel in hand and a graceful agility in its lines. Of course, that extremely tight-grained sandblast doesn't exactly hurt things either.
