About This Pipe
If Benni Jorgensen were to make a Devil Anse shape, it would likely look something like this straight Apple. The diminutive little ball of a bowl featured in the original miniseries simply wouldn't do. No, it would have to be something like this — something that speaks to Benni's penchant for marrying extremely stout, powerful forms with graceful, clean Danish lines. The bowl, as it does here, would have to carry the majority of the visual weight, protruding out slightly to either flank, softly tapering up to the rim. The shank, as it is, would have to be oval and comparatively quite trim and low in profile, accentuating that aforementioned visual weight of the bowl.
Was it Benni's intention to create his take on the Devil Anse? Probably not, but either way, this is one beautiful and charming composition — one I'm honestly having quite a lot of trouble putting down.
