About This Pipe
You don't see many straight pipes from Kurt Balleby, who seems to enjoy the challenges of performing his remarkable faceted designs on bent pipes. But here we have a beautiful little Rhodesian. Classic, with Balleby design cues, its Danish heritage is clear. An abbreviated pipe in length, it's proportioned beautifully. The bowl features angel hair grain climbing the walls from every angle and cut off at the rim by the double bead lines. The rim itself is a dense sea of tight birdseye. Ridges, as expected from Kurt, are crisp and sharp, lending attitude to the shank, which is wide and echoes that birdseye found at the rim in fine fashion, all highlighted in a deep contrast strain. The flat saddle bit promises comfort and balance. In the hand, it's a natural fit, both while holding with fingertips and whole-hand. Elegant and precise.
