About This Pipe

This is something different for Chris Askwith. Sure, the English carver has made use of jet-black morta quite prolifically, as he has with sterling silver, both of which are handled beautifully in this case. And he's been known to play with more traditional palettes too, despite his penchant for more unique color and finish combinations. So, what's different then? Well, aside from his more playfully-shaped, Mummert-esque shape renditions, by and large the carver tends to work within the realm of English classics. This bent Dublin, as you can see, certainly seems to show influence from the Italian school, with its very forward-inclined bowl and neoclassical relationship between bowl and shank. It's lightweight and can be broken down in a pinch, even when hot; needless to say, it's an excellent means of bucking the trend.
