About This Pipe

The last time we received a similarly-formed sitter shape from Micah "Yeti" Cryder, I observed that his work excels in not only rendering characteristically firm-sitting shapes in an active manner, but doing so in a playful, elegant way. Well, it seems as if he also has a deft hand when it comes to pushing the boundaries of line and form, seeing just how far he can shift things around while still retaining ultimate practicality and function.

The underlying form is a Calabash-esque bent Dublin, though there's likely a hint of extremely forward-canted Cherrywood in their somewhere as well, to my eye. The chamber's dimensions are akin to that of a fairly deep, narrow Stack, and due to the angle it presents itself when sitting on a surface, it's perfectly positioned for packing with a favored blend. The contrast stain Micah's applied here brings the vivid streaks of flame even more to life, coupled with beautiful birdseye and subtle plateau about the beveled rim. A stunning, dynamic piece from Yeti.
