About This Pipe

Windshield pipes were first brought to awareness by Dunhill back in the day, with the intention of providing a smoking device someone could use while driving an open vehicle. The most obvious feature was a dramatically stepped rim, which with the fore acting as a "shield" of sorts, could block the chamber from oncoming wind. They were often larger, taller pieces, however, like the marque's current "12" shape — an earlier version of which actually served as the basis for many of these configurations. Ray's signature variation is much more compact and tight-knit in style, which makes sense given that these briars are meant to be clenched.
