About This Pipe
Dunhill's old, swan-necked "LC" bent Billiard is an iconic design that has become well celebrated throughout the pipe collecting world. Despite its beloved form, though, it's a rare shape to see fashioned from an artisan carver as the stretched transition makes it incredibly difficult to drill perfectly. From our records, we've only received a few iterations, and most of them come courtesy of Gustavo Cunha of Martelo.
The piece you see here is one beefy number. It's a unique juxtaposition of proportions and profile, as the palm-filling bowl and muscular shank contrast against the elegant lines afforded by the sweeping S-curve.It fills the hand sublimely, with plenty of room for a thumb rest and more than enough surface area to display Cunha's magnificent sandblasting. It's an area for which the Brazilian carver has become renowned — his blasts being beautifully and consistently grooved and craggy yet without interrupting the shape's form. They've become so good, even, as to draw well deserved parallels to the work of Michael Parks, who is widely considered the best blaster in the biz, so to speak. For fans of large, classically English shapes and aficionados of deep sandblasts, this piece is simply a must-buy.
