About This Pipe
Tonino Jacono, based in Jesi, Italy, began his journey as a pipe maker in 1981. Initially prompted by his father-in-law, who ran a briar mill and provided raw materials for Italy's top pipe factories, Jacono joined forces with his brother-in-law to start a workshop that focused on producing freehand pipes. While his father-in-law handled the briar and drilling, his brother-in-law focused on shaping, and Jacono took on the final finishing and sales. However, in 1983, Jacono made a pivotal decision to move back to Marche, where he launched his own workshop and began crafting pipes under the Jacono name.
In this offering, the Italian carver presents a plump, muscular take on the Apple. The bowl also houses plenty of chamber depth and sits on a flat heel. The use of olivewood, then, means the stummel is adorned in the medium's iconic, ink-swirled grain, making for a striking presentation especially when paired with an acrylic stem of shining ruby hues.
