About This Pipe
With tutelage from Tom Eltang, Lasse Skovgaard, Kai Neilsen, and Jens "Tao" Nielsen, Henri Sørensen has established himself among Denmark's burgeoning generation of talented young artisan pipe makers. His prior expertise as a glazier brings craftsmanship experience to his pipe making as well as an established artistic eye, and his work often draws inspiration from Danish greats.
This style of long-shanked pipe is an inherently Danish form, popularized especially by the Ivarssons and indelibly tied to Denmark's rich artisan pipe-making tradition. Sørensen's rendition here pairs the long shank to a squat Acorn bowl that retains the shank's muscular demeanor through its robustly rounded and softly domed rim. It's a pipe that exudes gentle lines and elegance, yet without being frail or demure. A paneled underside lends just the slightest hint of structure, with ridgelines framing the lower flanks, while its smooth finishes harmonize with the rim and the boxwood accent along the shank end.
