About This Pipe
One of Bill's more whimsical numbers, by my book, this Volcano features some obvious Danish and Japanese influences, only executed through the modern American lens. The bowl itself is relatively compact, with the majority of the visual weight in the composition lying with the stout, strongly sweeping transition and upward-flicking shank. Bill's capitalized on this shifting of visual focus even shaving off as much briar as possible along heel — further exaggerating the form's arcing, curling silhouette. Given how much height there is to the profile at large, the crimson sandblast was a fitting choice of finish, allowing the block's rippling ring grain to really shine.
