About This Pipe
Alexander Tupitsyn is well-versed in the use of line to create dynamic silhouettes. His more Ilsted-inspired pieces, for example, lend underlying classic forms a rakish and jaunty aesthetic in profile; here, however, he's applied that careful attention to a different effect. A mix of Volcano, Horn, and bent Acorn designs, he's taken three distinct shapes and compiled them into one, tying the forms together into one cohesive design through the use of continuous, arcing lines flowing down either flank. The degree of forward cant, paired with supple curves and those aforementioned lines, allows the eye to sweep across the composition, suggesting grace and poise.
