Good flavor, but too much cleanup

Going off of flavor alone this is one of the best vanilla aromatics period. The vanilla is present without overwhelming the flavor of the tobacco. As others have stated, it is oily/wet when you open the tin and you must dry for 20 - 30 minutes. Surprisingly once you get it going it needs average or less than average number of relights. It crackles here and there (which I actually find is kind of pleasant) but it keeps burning nicely.

Now for the not so good side of this blend. This blend is so so SO sticky. It gums up the sides of the pipe bowl and even collects/sticks to my pipe tamp! When I smoke this blend I always have to keep a paper towel handy to wipe of my tamp after each tamping. When cleaning afterwards pipe cleaner fluff loves to stick to the goop along the walls in the pipe and it is a PITA to get it all cleaned out.

My advice, give this one a try, and determine for yourself if the delicious flavor is worth the pain of cleanup. For me, it just isn't. Maybe find a cob you are kicking around that you don't smoke much and make that your Green River Vanilla pipe....Read More

A Vanilla Aromatic That Still Tastes Like Tobacco

Cornell & Diehl Green River Vanilla is a very enjoyable aromatic because it manages to deliver sweetness without burying the tobacco underneath it.

The vanilla is clearly present, but it comes across as soft and restrained rather than syrupy or artificial. Underneath that sweetness is a darker, slightly earthy tobacco character that gives the blend more substance than many traditional vanilla aromatics.

What I appreciate most is how well it smokes when given a little care. It can be rich and sweet without becoming hot, goopy, or overwhelming. The flavor remains pleasant through the bowl, and the room note is exactly what you hope for from a classic aromatic—warm, sweet, and inviting.

The Aromatic That Changed My Mind

I approached Green River Vanilla with modest expectations. After trying other aromatics, I’d begun to think they simply weren’t for me. Most seemed overly sweet, fussy to keep lit, and less rewarding than the burleys and flakes I usually enjoy. Green River Vanilla completely changed my mind. After about 20 minutes of drying time and a firm pack in a stacked bowl, it performed beautifully. It lit easily, required no relights, burned cool at a relaxed cadence, and stayed dry from beginning to end. The mechanics alone are outstanding. The flavor is what won me over. This isn’t a syrupy, candy-like vanilla aromatic. The tobacco remains the star, while the vanilla complements rather than overwhelms it. The sweetness is restrained, natural, and finishes with a smooth, lingering vanilla note that never becomes cloying.
