Rattray's Tamper - Fat Caber Satin

By far the stouter of Ratray's two "Caber" series of tampers, the "Fat Caber" offers a pipe tool with high-end looks and a reassuring heft, not to mention some seriously sturdy construction. Though it could still readily tuck into a pocket, my impression is that it's more of desk-top companion to the "Slim Caber" line, one that would look perfectly at home standing beside an old-fashioned table-top lighter and an extra-large ashtray. It's constructed with solid brass underneath, and a variety of finishes outside. The tamper is sheathed within the fuselage, secured by a pair of rubber o-rings, the dottle-pick in turn following in the same pattern, sheathed within the handle of the tamper piece itself. The broad collar up top makes it easy to pull out the latter while keeping the former still in place.
