Peterson - Standard Mixture 50g
A mild English
The tin note is pleasantly smoky without being overpowering, while in the background it smells like being at your neighbor's backyard barbeque. Woodsy and with just a hint of sweetness, the room note is pleasant and inviting. Straight out of the tin the moisture content was perfect, and packing my pipe was a breeze. The tobacco took a light very easily and burned evenly all the way to the bottom of the bowl without overheating, keeping its flavor the whole way down. I did have to relight a couple times, but I think that's due more to my technique and has nothing to do with the tobacco itself. I go through phases with my tobacco selections, and currently I am enjoying English blends. One thing that has turned me off to English blends in the past has been their overpoweringly strong smell of latakia, and the fact that they're usually too strong to smoke in warmer weather. Peterson's (Dunhill's) Standard Mixture doesn't have that problem. This seems like a blend that I could smoke long into the warmer days of spring, and even on some of the cooler evenings of summer.

Seattle Pipe Club - Mississippi River 2oz
A Tangy English
Excellent blend. During the colder months I turn more to smoking English blends, and more and more I find myself reaching for Mississippi River. The dark smokiness of the latakia is enhanced beautifully by the tanginess of the Orientals, almost a vinegar flavor. I know that doesn't sound appealing on the surface, but the tang hits my taste buds differently from any other tobacco flavors and lingers on the tongue long after the smokiness has gone. Every time I crack open the tin and the smell hits my nose my mouth begins to water and I know I'm in for a very pleasant and enjoyable smoking experience. I already have several 1/2 pound tins cellared and am always adding more. Hands down one of my all time favorite blends.

EDC and the perfect gift
Great smoker right out of the box. I generally reserve my cobs for aromatics, 1) so my briars don't ghost, and 2) because aromatics just taste better coming out of a cob. A cob is a great place to start your pipe journey, and this guy is perfectly priced to be the one you start with. If I have a friend that wants to try pipe smoking, but isn't quite sure about it I buy one of these along with a pouch of something aromatic and give it to them as a gift. If they end up enjoying it then I act as their pipe guru and help guide them on their journey.

McConnell - Scottish Cake 50g
A new favorite
Picked up a tin of this because the shop was out of what I'd gone in for, I've never been so happy for a shop to be out of the blend I wanted. I knew as soon as I opened this I had found something special, the smell of buttered toast and hay hinted at what was to come as I delightfully packed my pipe. A week and a half later I was back at the same shop picking up another two tins, one to smoke and one to cellar (I'd completely smoked through that first tin in that time.) I now have over half a dozen aging away happily in my cellar, and plan to add even more to that number. When I discovered this blend, I discovered my new favorite.

Erinmore - Erinmore Flake 50g
Horrid
Tobacco should not taste of smell like this. I decided to give this blend a try because I knew that a lot of people liked it, and for many it was their first ever pipe tobacco. IT WAS AWFUL. I read a review by someone that this smelled like cat pee, and I have to agree, and no amount of letting it breathe or air out did anything to change that. I have never thrown out a mostly full tin of tobacco before, but I did not hesitate to get rid of this. I don't know if it's just something to do with my taste buds being different since so many people seem to love this, but it certainly is not for me. 1/10 would not recommend.

Esoterica - And So To Bed 2oz
Wonderful way to end the day.
Got lucky and found a tin of this at a local shop in Seattle, it is excellent. Was a big fan of English blends back in the day, lately I've tended more towards VA/Burley blends, but this reawakened my love of good English tobacco. It is smokey, but surprisingly light, and has a sweetness that matches most aromatics out there. If you get lucky enough to snag a tin of this, you won't be disappointed.

Cornell & Diehl - From Beyond 2oz
It's very good.
Saw a review of this on YouTube and the guy finished by saying, "it's very good" and I feel that is all the review it needs. This is a fantastic blend, pleasantly smokey and English, but the new Turkish latakia adds a sweetness that's missing from other English blends. I bought multiple tins when this hit the market, and I hope to be able to come back in a few years with an updated review of the aged tobacco, that is if I don't smoke it all before then. Like the man said, "it's very good."

Cornell & Diehl - Old Joe Krantz 2oz
All I can say is WOW!
First review ever. I have been a pipe smoker for a little over a year now and I've tried dozens of different tobaccos, but Old Joe Krantz is the first one where at the end of it I put down my pipe and just sat in wonderment at what I had just experienced. i agree with some of the other reviews on here, OJK smells like a quality cigar, but the experience is so much more than that. It was incredibly slow burning when compared to many other tobaccos, and It was incredibly cool burning as well. No matter how hard I puffed on my pipe, I didn't get even a hint of tongue bite, I can say that about maybe 1 or 2 other blends I've tried. I'm definitely a convert to OJK, try it yourself and see what He can do for you.
