Cornell & Diehl - Sun Bear Bourbon Cask 2oz
Worth chasing
I have not been successful for three years prior to this release. I tried, I failed to get any SunBear. I opened a tin, 14 seconds after opening the box and let it sit for 30 minutes. I fired it up and was treated to some extremely well made tobacco. I smell honey and bourbon in the tin. I thought it would be a little sticky or messy but it performed really well. The bourbon and honey flavors are present without being obnoxious. I paired it with some 100 proof bourbon and could still taste bourbon from the tobacco. Once it got burning properly it melded into a hot biscuit with butter and honey dripping from it. It’s magical to the point I did wear out my tongue huffing it. It’s stem licking good and in reality it’s better than the hype.

Three Nuns - Three Nuns 1.75oz
Pure enjoyment
There are literally dozens of blends that have Latakia and Perique in them. It’s refreshing to find one with neither. I enjoy both of them but do not require them in everything. I never had original 3 Nuns, only what is available today. The first bowl blew my mind, the second was prepared differently and in a different pipe and blew my mind again. The DFK and Burley do not get washed out by the Virginia . I can easily taste each leaf. This stuff has bullied its way to the top of my list. It expensive, that’s the only complaint. It’s the best balanced blend I’ve had. Everyone has their own preferences and preferences but this is at least worth a try, it’s fantastic

Lighters - Savinelli Pipe Lighter - Miele
Wow
Until I purchased this lighter I don’t believe I ever paid more than $40 for one. At $160 it was a few rings higher than what I was used to and I questioned why I would spend this kind of money on a lighter but I am very happy that I did. It pours the most flowing flame that I have seen. It cascades down into the bowl efficiently. It’s well made and a pure pleasure to own. It’s luxurious for sure, not the one you take camping. I would strongly recommend this lighter.

Peter Stokkebye - PS402 Luxury Twist Flake
Not what I expected
I received a bag of this at the Chicago pipe show. I really like flakes and cakes of any sort. Not even knowing what components make up the blend, I went in blind. I cubed a bit to mix in with rubbed out portion and let it sit for 20 minutes before adding it to a Savi 320 KS . I lit it once and twenty minutes later it was still smoldering and it burned cool . I kept waiting for something to make me ooh awe or wow but I found the taste to be unimpressive. The quality is great, it smokes very well and I was shocked to find out it is a pure Virginia because it never hinted at overheating. I don’t get any of the flavors that other reviews mention so I will try a different pipe and preparation and see what happens.

G. L. Pease - 25th Anniversary Silver Jubilee 2oz
Struck out before getting to swing
If when I receive the email telling me you have a product and then I open the page to order and it’s gone -we have a problem. This is not the first time, I am not the only victim so is this it? Unless we are Chinese bots, we will smoke half and half while they sit on twenty cans of Sun Bear or Carolina red flake. MAKE MORE PRODUCT OR LIMIT ORDERS

Cornell & Diehl - Carolina Red Flake with Perique 2oz
Frustrating
One has to be able to acquire some before they can review it. This was gone by the time I received the email letting me know it arrived. This is not the first time. I feel like I’m playing the lottery instead of purchasing tobacco.

Behind the Scenes with Smokingpipes' Customer Service
  • ► To start with- they get it right. Every experience I have had with smoking pipes has been enjoyable. I was at the Chicago show this year and personally spoke to a few of them. They are just as nice in person! Love doing business with them. They are a rarity in this day and age.

  • ► Wonderful thought provoking article. I place my tobacco about 5 feet away from an ionic air cleaner so the fresh current flows over it. It is working well for me. It’s gentle and easy to customize to each individual. It usually only takes 5-10 minutes to prepare.

  • ► …I thought I was the only one, I have pipe magazines in the bathroom, I have daydreamed about what tobacco was going in what pipe tonight. Cheers everyone!
The Pipe-Smoking Community Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Chicago Pipe Show
  • ► Wow! Just got back from Chicago. This was my first pipe show so I really didn’t understand what I was about to experience. Yes I purchased a great new pipe, yes I gathered tobacco, but the conversation with new friends was priceless. The entire event was something I hope all of you can experience at least once. Thanks to all the crew that put it together. There were so many beautiful pipes it felt like I was looking at museum pieces , just amazing artists! Go to the next show if you have yet to do it. You’ll leave light in the wallet but full of experience that can only be had there.

  • ► I’m going into my fourth year of pipe smoking. I read a lot and figure things out on my own because I don’t have any friends who enjoy smoking a pipe. Because of this, I probably have ingested incorrect information. I am really enjoying the informative conversation here. I’m 63 , and I try to learn more each day. After four years what I have learned is for me to fully wrap my head around pipe smoking I should have started 40 years ago! I’m sure even at that level there is still more to learn. The combination of a few pipes and a few blends is enough for many trials and errors. I’m kind of easy to satisfy as I smoke depending on how I feel. I can smoke aros although the farther I journey the more codger I seem to become. So many of you out there have such a deep knowledge about smoking pipes and tobacco that I really enjoy hearing your tips stories and frustration. I reserve my pipe smoking for relaxing, with scotch, with nothing else to do other than read. Thanks for the knowledge about Perique
