Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Black Irish X
Some prep required
Early attempts to smoke this left me unsatisfied: Tastes of tar, tough to keep lit, and kinda' goopy. After leaving it to "mellow" for six months, I cut and rough-cubed a half-inch and let it dry for 15 hours before rubbing it out. Sipping it in a Meerschaum, I was rewarded with lovely roasted tobacco, chocolate nuttiness, and an unexpected sweetness. Low nicotine, no hint of toppings, and overall an excellent, strong smoke albeit with lots of relights. Can't wait to see what more aging will do - reserving half a point for then. Highly recommended!

Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Brown Irish X Aromatic Twist
Seatbelts Required
First-timers: Use a small bowl or pack light - best in a clay pipe or corn cob without a filter. This is a slow-burn; even if you freight-train it, this will not bite! As with all GH ropes, it is wet so plan 20-60 minutes of drying time. And you will be rewarded with a smooth (albeit strong) experience. Aromatic is present, but in a supporting role - VA takes the leading, leathery note, Indo provides the snap, and Lakeland keeps the blend interesting. Smoke is consistent (after relights) through the whole bowl, ending with a white ash. Only a 4.5 because it will get better with time. Lovely, lovely smoke!
