Cornell & Diehl - Sun Bear Bourbon Cask 2oz
A toned down Steamworks
I was very lucky and managed to get a tin from a local shop on release day. This strongly reminds me of a more subtle, toned down, version of Steamworks. Virginia sweetness, Oriental incense and zing, with a boozy under-note. Tobacco flavor is present throughout. Given the choice I personally prefer Steamworks.

Delicious Straight Virginia
No need for drying, bready, sweet, citrusy, full flavored Virginia. Delicious

Wessex - Curly Block 275g
Rich, Sweet, and Spicy
The rope cut is interesting and fun to prepare compared to the more common presentations. This tobacco is flavorful from the first puff, richly sweet Virginia, plum and stewed fruit spice, and a touch of mellow earthiness. What’s not to like? It’s pricey but you get a ton of it in this rope.

Mellow and sweet
Smooth earthy sweetness, perique is present but hard to detect, Latakia is very much in the background. I’ll give this one some age and try again. Pleasant but there are others I prefer when looking for a similar experience

Cornell & Diehl - Eight State Burley 2oz
Favorite Burley of All Time
The tin note reminded me strongly of sweet cocoa, dark chocolate, and fig newtons without being artificial. Moisture was near perfect out of the tin, only needing a few minutes to dry. Smoked in a Savinelli 320 KS notes of sweet earthy cocoa, toasted nuts, figs, baked bread, and incense Nicotine is present but not overpowering, a perfect evening smoke.

Exceptional
Just the right balance of perique. In a narrow billiard I get honeyed bread with red pepper flake and bursts of sweet red apple. In a taller slightly broader pipe, cool sweet tea. A wonderful blend.

Peterson - Nightcap 50g
A complex and nuanced masterpiece
A person favorite of mine, this blend develops wonderfully. Early whole grain toast and barbecue smoke give way to a short burst of leather, finishing with a gradual development of stewed figs and bread.

Cornell & Diehl - Haunted Bookshop 2oz
Red pepper over a faint earthy sweetness
This blend isn’t necessarily bad, just not for me. I find it to be too perique forward for what I personally want from a burley blend. This isn’t necessarily a bad trait. Just not for me.
