Not Out of This World, But Very Good
This is a very good blend. The subtle complexity is nice and refreshing. It certainly falls into the everyday smoke category. It’s not something I would cellar deeply, but it’s to have around. I recommend trying at least once
Dan Tobacco - Hamborger Veermaster 50g
Solid, No Nonsense Virginia
This blend is a top five favorite blends for me. It’s not trying to be anything but a delicious, natural blend. The tin not is sweet fruit, grass, hay, raisins, light malt. The smoke is very sweet, slightly musty and earthy, light bread, fig. This one of those Virginias you can push a little bit and it won’t punish you. I highly recommend this blend

Excellent blend, absolute class. Highly recommended, especially to VA lovers.
Cornell & Diehl - Briar Fox 16oz
As good as a natural blend gets
Would make a good everyday smoke. It’s very good at being natural and to the point. The burleys and Virginias balance very well. Good earthy body, sweet complexity to top it all off. Not my favorite, as I lean more towards richer blends. I think the hype is overplayed for sure, it’s just a no nonsense codger blend. Worth trying once with managed expectations.
Peterson - University Flake 50g
Not Bad
Decent smoke. The burleys are forward while the Virginias support. The plum topping is very faint but enough to really complement and tie the flavor profile together. Has a dark rye, blueberry muffin thing going on and develops through the bowl. The nic is definitely present, just gotta respect the blend. My tin had about 7 years age on it. Worth trying at least once
Mac Baren - Virginia Flake 1.75oz
It's Just Ok
Nothing really special about this flake in my opinion. The flavors don't really develop too much and stay pretty consistent all the way through. The topping on this one is a little bit cloying to me, not a huge fan. The room not is amazing though! Worth trying at least once.
Wessex - Gold Brick Virginia Plug 100g
Delicious
Fantastic! Lights very easy and stays lit. Notes are phenomenal, malty, bready, toffee, caramel. Don’t pass this up, get as much as you can when it’s available.
A&C Petersen - Escudo Navy Deluxe 50g
Great Blend
I did not care for this blend initially. I found it to be a little rough and like a cigarette, however, after some time in a jar, I can confidently say this is one of my favorite blends. Delicious notes of bread, plum and dark fruit, malt, with a touch of continental spice and some hay. I find this blend to be a little bit more refined and complex than PS Luxury Bullseye (also delicious). One to stock up on for sure.
Samuel Gawith - Perfection Mixture 50g
Light English, very nice
Like most Gawith blends, this is very nice but moist. Perfection is the lightest English blend I have tried up to this point. All of the leaves are very balanced and that touch of vanilla is a nice touch, not loud or obtrusive in any way. Definitely worth picking up a couple of tins, one for now and one for a year or two later. Give it a try!
Capstan - Flake Blue 1.75oz
Bready Goodness
I’ve smoked through a couple of these tins now and really like it. It can be a little rough around the edges if it’s a younger tin. After some time in a jar, the sweetness, citrus, hay, and bread notes really start to come out, with an occasional malt note. It is a little bit expensive for what it is, but good nevertheless. Definitely worth a trying and adding a few to the cellar.

Spicy and Rich
I picked up a tin a month or so ago based upon the great reviews. The tin note was great, raisins, dark bread, chocolate cake, and that Perique funk. Upon smoking, I found this blend to be so spicy and a little too intense for my tastes. Now, it was a younger tin, so maybe just needs some age on it. Will jar and return in a year.
