Cornell & Diehl - Captain Bob's Blend
This Stank up everything -unsmoked
This was the most stinky foul smelling tobacco I’ve ever smelt. I could smell it even before I opened up the delivery box. Took one whiff and thought… Jesus this smells like one of those metaphysical stores that sells incense and crystals and chakra stuff. I thought I was being too harsh so thought I’d light it up and see… Two puffs in my mouth tasted so horrid and I instantly dreaded potentially ruining one of my pipes with ghosting. I dumped the bowl in a jar of ash and Dottle… and guess what… this blend out stank my Dottle jar! Every time I open the jar up it’s the most overpowering smell there is. God bless whoever likes this. I was just hoping for a little grape, not a chakra opening stank sesh

Cornell & Diehl - From Beyond 2oz
Absolute thriller/magic
Jeremy you magnificent bastard… There aren’t many C&D small batch releases that I am impressed with enough to leave a review. But as im smoking a bowl, I had to say something about this. As an English smoker, who has tried many a blend… This is absolutely magical. It’s really a work of art. This blend to me is what I would have hoped for from Haunted Bookshop. It’s honestly poetry in a bowl. Here is why… The taste is Smokey, and deep, and rich… and as you smoke it the experience keeps evolving. Sort of a Willy wonka type thing going on… on some puffs it’s mesquite wood, then you are hit with pop ups of sweet ghosts and goblins. Then the perique finds its way to say hello. On relights I taste the musty, leathery, old paper books in a library, and then a few puffs more and something a little pleasantly funky arises… and is greeted by a surprise bbq ghoulish wisp. I sincerely wish this wasn’t a small batch release but a permanent fixture on the C&D roster… if anything an English version release of haunted bookshop. Anyway. Time to order some more

Warped - The Haunting Cake 2oz
I don’t know anymore
It’s so easy to get excited over these small releases. And definitely brings some joy to the Holiday seasons. I cracked this one open and on first whiff my thought was “eh… I don’t really notice much special here” But you know you can’t judge a blend by its smell. So of course I reserved forming a full opinion until lighting it up. But unfortunately I can’t say that even on smoking there was anything noticeably novel or even enjoyable. Yes … it’s tobacco… it’s a little bit bitter from the criolliolliolloo and that’s about it. And now there’s another small batch coming out the “from beyond” line… and I’m supposed to get excited about that all over again just to go through this same process? I think this might be the death of this hobby

G. L. Pease - Quiet Nights 2oz
English Hero
This is only my second English blend after trying EMP, And the first puff of the charring light immediately won me over. It’s always such an exceptional experience when you go to light your pipe and the first taste of smoke makes your eyes open wide with a “woah… what was that?!” Expression What catches you off guard is how gentle and delicate this strong smelling blend is on the tongue, barely any heat generation, almost no discernible tongue bite. And all followed up with a complexity of flavors and depth that ping pongs your mind to multiple far reaches of memories past. It’s more than just Smokey beef jerky, it’s… a peat mossy trip to the highlands, it’s a snap back to a local Italian restaurant with red checkered table cloth with a Parmesan shaker on the table. It’s a kumbaya around a campfire amongst the moist mountain forests of North Carolina. It’s a trip to many parts and corners of the world without any pain or burn. I don’t just have a new favorite tobacco, I have a new best friend

Rivertown Tobacco Works - Maple Cask
Strike 3
This is the third blend I’ve tried and while this one has more to offer than the others, I still feel like the quality of tobacco is quite poor and has no distinguishable characteristics. The maple comes through on the back end, very subtle, but missing the body of the smoke.

Rivertown Tobacco Works - Hazelnut Hollow
Also…. Hot air
I got a few oz of the different offerings from river town…. I hate to say it but this is strike two, hardly any flavor and all hot air. I know it’s cheap but I’d rather have saved this 4 bucks for something else like a pack of gum

Rivertown Tobacco Works - Sir Vanderberry
Hot air balloon
I had high hopes for this blend, Maybe I got a bad batch but the bag note had practically no smell to it at all aside from straight cavendish. When smoked maybe there is the slightest hint of something creamy but it isn’t vanilla. Nor is there any trace at all of anything berry. Practically straight hot air. I don’t give it a 1 because … no tongue bite

Cornell & Diehl - Firebird Flake 2oz
miracle
By some miracle after waiting in queue for an estimated time of 1 minute “which was really 20 minutes” I managed to get a couple tins, one for now and one to cellar. But what shocked me was that the purchase limit was 20 tins. I think perhaps that is too high a limit for such a small batch cuz if 250 people decide to go all in then that’s that.
