Sutliff - Z92 Vanilla Custard
Wet and Hot
Vanilla Custard is what I call a Scorpio blend. It’s that deep, intense flavor and smell that lures you into its grip, thinking its going to be a premium aro. It’s a blend you want to love, and you have high hopes for, but if you smoke too hot or for too long, it bites you hard. It’s a Goldilocks for sure. My tip: if your tobacco is moist to the touch, give it 3-4 days to dry before you try smoking it, and whatever you do, don’t throw this in a deep meerschaum or corn cob, or you’re going to feel the wrath. VC is popular for some ungodly reason, but at the end of the day it is not in my top 5. Sip slow, and blend with some dark fired Kentucky or Burley forward tobacco, and you’ll be just fine.
Sutliff - Buttered Rum
Fantastic Blender and Room Note
As many of you know I’m a huge fan of aromatics, and butter rum is one of my top choices for many reasons. Firstly, it blends so well with other rich dessert aros such as Chocolate Mousse and Autumn Evening by C&D. It takes the more intense flavors and dampens them, rounding off the mixture. If you’re not a fan of aromatics, you can blend butter rum with most burley forward blends and some sweet Virginia for a subtle nuanced flavor that sits in the back, without overpowering the mixture. Well balanced, sweet and burns to a beautiful white ash each time.
Sutliff - B30 Chocolate Mousse
Smooth Like Chocolate Silk
This is an interesting blend. Out the bag, the smell of chocolate and cream is strong and rich. It’s a beautiful smell, albeit a bit moist. Room note is superb, taste is very deep and silky smooth like chocolate cake. My only complaint is that when it comes to the process of smoking, this tobacco (while smooth and creamy) is a pain to keep lit. I had to relight this 4 times just to get it started. I have found that after drying for a few days it is a bit more consistent on the burn. Overall, a great room note. Smokes a bit warm, but the flavor is smooth, intense and thoroughly satisfying.
Cornell & Diehl - Autumn Evening 2oz

C&D continues to set the standard with this legendary fall blend. This was my first aro, and has remained in my briar each night since I first began. With a smooth, cool smoke and beautiful room note, autumn evening gives you a refreshing way to end the evening either by yourself or around the wife. Upon opening, you are greeted with notes of cinnamon, maple, vanilla, bourbon and gorgeous red Virginia leaf. Lights easily, stays lit and burns cool. I like to sip it slow and let the thick black cavendish carry the flavor. There is a reason this blend has raving reviews. If you’re on the fence, do yourself a favor and grab this in a 2oz tin. Give it a week and then grab a 16oz.
Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - Twilight Mixture
Horrendous Mixture
Before I start this review, you should be aware that I detest English and non-aromatic blends. That said, this mixture is rather odd. Took me 7 lights to keep it lit, and went out quickly. The tobacco had low moisture, so I’m not sure what happened. Lastly, (and possibly my biggest gripe) is the flavor. It’s earthy, woody, and rather bland, akin to cigarette grade tobacco. For those of you who enjoy non-aromatic tobaccos, or prefer a more cigarette-like flavor, you’ll enjoy this blend. For my aromatic brethren out there, this is a pass.
