Cornell & Diehl - Eight State Burley 2oz
Yep, it’s Good Stuff
Managed to get a couple tins upon release. Just opened 1st tin to try and yep, it’s good stuff. I’ve never been a big fan of Burley’s but it’s slowly becoming my favorite tobacco varieties. I love Virginia’s but man I’ve got to concentrate to avoid tongue bite with them. No such problem with this or most Burleys in my opinion. At the risk of sounding cliche’ it’s nutty, smooth and hint of cocoa, but in a buttery kind of way, not chocolate. I’d check your B&M or some under the radar internet tobacco shops, it’s worth searching for. If your looking for another Burley to try, don’t sleep on Crooner. It’s highly underrated IMO. I’m blessed to have some of my grandfather and my fathers old pipes so I smoked this Eight State Burley in one of my grandfathers old ‘75 Dunhill’s, that I’m 100% certain had alot of Sir Walter Raleigh run through it. So kinda cool that I got to experience a new upgraded version of burley blend in that pipe. BTW was drinking a bourbon barrel stout beer while smoking this ESB and it was a great pairing. Well those are my thoughts, hope this helps.

Cornell & Diehl - Visions of Celephaïs 2oz
I Love It!
Yes the tin note is GRAPE! Get past it… Smoking the tobacco is much more subtle. Flavorful rich, thick smoke, good room note, or patio note in my case, wife even liked the smell. This is a fun tobacco to smoke if you like to experiment with new flavors. If that’s not your cup of tea, or wine in this case, then skip it, but then why would you even be reading this? Lots of flavors to unpack, the dark fired and cigar leaf make it rich. The topping makes it interesting. BTW, I smoked this while drinking a port wine, something I often do with a cigar. Try it, you may like it and discover something new about tobacco and your less boring self . Anyway, I love it!

Top Notch, Up There with Best of the Best
Start with patience, let this dry out overnight. I rubbed out two bowls worth on my tobacco tray late one night and it was perfect the next day, no bite, (and I tend to smoke fast) all flavor. This is classified as Aromatic I’m assuming because of the clove and Lakeland essence but this is a VERY smooth Virginia with just a hint of “extra” flavor. If you didn’t know it was clove, I’m not sure many could pinpoint the flavor, just a little “something” extra. I’d put this right up there with some of my other favorites like R. M. Scottish Flake and Hal O the Wynd. I’ve had several other G. H. blends like Ennerdale and Bob’s Choc Flk (also excellent), but this may be my GH favorite. Try some you won’t be disappointed, but let it dry out first!

Marie Laveau widely regarded as the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans would have been 11 when the United States achieved its greatest land victory of the War of 1812 at New Orleans. The battle thwarted a British effort to gain control of a critical American port and elevated Maj. Gen. Andrew Jackson to national fame. Why is this important for a tobacco review? Because Sutliff’s Voodoo Queen is what happens when an English blend meets a Va/Per and I love it! This is a Va/Per with a light Latakia-English flavor. Taste from the bowl is pleasant & smokey like a subtle English blend, retrohale is bready & sweet like a Virginia with slight spice from the Louisiana Perique. Absolutely could be an everyday smoke kind of a subtle best of both worlds. My son gave it to me in a Christmas tobacco sampler and I smoked it with my newly gifted Peterson Christmas 2024 pipe purchased here. Try this blend for an easy smoke you won’t be disappointed.
