Cornell & Diehl - XXV Reserve: Dawn 2oz
First impression: this stuff is special
A little spicy, slightly fermented ( as if a little perique were added), creamy and smooth, no bite at all, very rich. As far as the Virginia's I have smoked, this is a bit different. I will cherish the few tins I have, and can't wait to see how it changes with time.

For the Nightcap lover
I've smoked my way through a 2oz tin in about a 2 week stretch. This one hooked me after the second bowl, and the more familiar I become with the flavor the more I look forward to it. I've also tried Westminster, Odyssey, Maltese Falcon, Quiet Nights, Meridian, and Chelsea Morning. This is my favorite Pease so far. A close second would be Chelsea Morning. Kinda apples to oranges and at times I prefer a bowl of Chelsea Morning. But I tend to lean towards a more potent English, usually. Definitely scratches a similar itch for me that Nightcap would. I really love this stuff.

Mac Baren - HH Old Dark Fired 3.5oz
Masterpiece
This tobacco is sensational. I prefer to just stuff and puff this flake. No dry time. My tin is fresh and very moist. Leathery, oily, and dark uniform cuts. It starts out strong with a little sharpness in the sinuses. The flavor is ok, but nothing to get excited about. About a quarter of the way through the bowl is when the tobacco begins to heat up and meld together releasing it's deeply satisfying, smoky, and vaguely sweet flavor. The occasional aggressive draw and quick cadence with pluming retro-hale invites rich hints of caramel, BBQ, and a faint unsweetened Cocoa. It's hard for me not to freight train this sublime flake. I just need to remember to enjoy the ride and preserve my tongue. The last quarter is completely and perfectly rich. Nirvana. I could smoke this every day. This was my first experience with dark fired Kentucky. Are they all this good? I can tell you HH Bold Kentucky definitely is. I can't decide between the two which I prefer. I smoked them nearly back to back and started with Bold Kentucky. The juxtaposition made Old Dark Fired seem less flavorful and mild. When I smoke only ODF, it seems perfect. If you're an animal like me, perhaps start with ODF. I think I'm going to keep them both around. Highly suggest loading up on them both. Would hate for these to disappear.
