Seattle Pipe Club - Hogshead Bourbon Barrel Aged 2oz
Great! A definite Favorite. Fuller flavored than typical pure-Virginias. Softer, too.
This is great! I have recently discovered, and instantly fallen for, Seattle Pipe Club Hogshead Bourbon Barrel Aged. A fuller mouthful of creamier smoke than your typical all-Virginia, it tastes as if it has aged some already when fresh out of the tin. It IS aged tobacco. It has no casing. Some natural sweetness almost like toasted marshmallow; a touch of dried fruitiness; and the slightly musky leather flavor that I love. I don’t taste bourbon --maybe in the finish on the retrohale? Could that be placebo effect? Really nice that it doesn’t have the typical propensity for hotter, tongue-biting smoke that a typical pure Virginia has. Plus a fuller, rounder, flavor. And it’s my preferred medium-nicotine-strength. It’s so much MY kind of tobacco that I keep smoking it up; I haven’t had the patience to age any. (I’ll have to buy an excess! Hey Seattle Pipe Club, sell this in 8-ounce tins!) The lady of the house doesn’t love the room note, but it is not strong in the room. And I love the taste. A definite favorite. I’ve tried it in a handful of my old briars, and I like it so much that I’m using it to break in my new shire-stemmed cob. This tobacco is great. It’s become one of my primary go-to’s. I’m inclined to blend in just a little Burley, for mouth-feel. Would you recommend Perique? I’m still learning my Burley’s, preferring mellower nicotine-strength tobaccos. So, maybe a light Burley? I invite suggestions, please.
