Cornell & Diehl - Green River Vanilla 2oz
An Incidental Blend
This is very good on its own, but a bit wet. It crackles a lot when lighting but a few minutes to dry was just fine. It really shone when I mixed a pinch of this and a pinch of Haunted Bookshop... what a delicious smoke! Chocolatey, a bit smoke, and the vanilla is a perfect compliment.

Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Morning
Quickly became a favorite
This was my first VaPer blend, and from the very first draw I was hooked. It tastes like sweet hay and black pepper, and it lights very well and stays lit. By the time I had smoked half the bowl I had to let it rest because the nicotine hit was sudden but not unpleasant, like a good heady wooziness. It relit well and tasted consistent through the bowl, and more than once I found myself emptying out partially smoked bowls to smoke this. The treat is in the retrohale - a good amount of spice through the nose!

Samuel Gawith - Grousemoor 50g
The Trick to a Good Bowl of Grousemoor
The first few times I smoked Grousemoor I was disappointed. The tin note is heaven - I love floral perfumy things, and this is very nice and different than what I am used to. The first light... my tongue burned immediately. I tried a few times after that, and always the same - tongue bite and it just wouldn't stay lit. Finally I decided to fill a nameless estate meerschaum and let it sit open in my car as I drove about an hour. I lit up when I got there and... viola! the rosy lemony notes came through right off the bat and gave way to a grassy sweetness beneath. The top layer had dried almost enough to be crispy, so it lit well, and while I did need about three relights (I smoked it while I worked outdoors) I was able to get quite a lot of satisfaction out of it. Now that I know the trick, I know I will be enjoying this blend for a while.

Cornell & Diehl - Haunted Bookshop
Burley for a Virginia Lover
I came to this blend after only smoking virginias because I wanted to try out some burleys and see what I can make of them. The first smoke... I didn't like it at all. It tasted only like smoke to me! I let it go for a long time (almost a year) and gave it another shot today. Admittedly, I am sometimes an impatient smoker, so after a few minutes of puffing through it ad only getting smoke and ash flavor, I settled down and smoked it slowly with small sips. I can say that by the second half of the bowl it improved. layers started to open up, but not like they do with virginias I like. I had to ash the pipe half way through as it did produce a lot of fine white ash and I could taste that here and there. It did burn smoothly and evenly, and needed no relights, even with a much slower smoking cadence. I will keep trying it, perhaps it will grow on me.
