Best Selling Tinned Pipe Tobaccos

This tobacco is absolutely perfect. Orlik is like an old, dear friend or slipping into some comfy clothes. I prefer the smaller tin, which is probably mental - but it just tastes better to me this way. This tobacco has saved angry pipes who didn't like anything, and broken in some new pipes excellently. A standard; a classic. So terrific when your pipe aquires a taste for it after a few bowls. I cannot state enough how beloved Orlik Golden Sliced is. It is as perfect of a flake as one can hope for. I wasn't blown away by this at first. However, the more I smoke the more I reach for it. This is a nice mild blend, burns well to a nice ash and takes to a flame easily. I will be buying more, this is really started to grow on me. As a follow up to this review, I just bought a larger tin, this has really grown on me and moving it to 5 stars. Read Less

This is one of C&D's core blends for a reason. Throw a rock and chances are you'll hit 1 or 2 pipe smokers who've tried it. And at the end of the day, it seems to elicit a love it or hate it response. I love it for many reasons. Firstly, I'm a burley man through and through, and BF delivers. Secondly, it brings the nic and the strength without blowing out my palate for the day. And last but not least, this is a very simple blend that takes very little thought. It's best sipped, especially in a Missouri Meerschaum cob of absolutely any size. I can smoke bowl after bowl of this while drawing up spec sheets and doing paperwork. Awesome blend again C&D! This is a very good blend, but not for $25/tin - Capstan Blue has lost it's value for me... there are a number of Virginias I have found that are close enough for nearly half the price. STG is looking for the kind of margins they get with cigars with this product, and apparently are getting them! I've moved on... Read Less

I don't write reviews often, but this one seemed to be a given. As is my usual practice, I opened a tin of Peterson EMP, the day after I got it, and the day before I smoked it. The introduction of air to a vacuum sealed tin always tends to excite the poor tobacco that has been deprived, and it gets it pretty excited. Well I must say I was incredibly happy to have EMP back. From the moment I opened the tin I could remember the wonderful scent of Dunhill EMP. From the moment of the 1st burn, everything was right in the world again. Honestly, wasn’t that impressed with the regular incarnation of Plum Pudding, but this stuff is heavenly. That touch of bourbon flavor is absolutely divine, and turns a (IMO) rather mediocre blend, into something truly special. Read Less

I am NOT A fan of this type os Aromatic tobacco. So you may wonder WHY I bought a tin? All I can say is that I was suckered into buying it because of the promotion, the packaging, and my deep respect for MOST of what C&D produces. I like to try almost everything in pipe tobacco, at least once. Consider myself a connoisseur and I believe that I shouldn't judge a thing until I've tried it. Big mistake. This blend is EXACTLY why I generally don't like many aromatics. The taste of Maple, or Brown Sugar or pancakes simply does not belong in my pipe bowl. I ate pancakes this very morning. I don't need to smoke them. The taste of this heavily sweetened, overly flavored tobacco was so cloying that I can't get the unpleasant taste out of my mouth yet. The classic "Cavendish" sweetness that I most hate is redolent in this blend. If you love Captian Black White or any other of the thousands of cheaply made, overly sweet stuff your grandfather smoked for thirty years, then you will love this. I'm an English, Balkan, Va/Per, Va/Burley, straight Virginia smoker, and I know what I like. I also know what I hate, and this personifies everything I HATE in pipe tobacco. Much upset for the guys who cellared 100+ tins of Dunhill tobacco to flip, only to find Peterson bought the rights to Dunhill's excellent blends.
Same factory, same blend, same process as Dunhill's Flake.
The only thing that's changed is the sticker on the front.
Great solid Brown Virginias, sweet grassy smoke which gets much better with age. Read Less

I blame the wonderful Malcolm Guite for his love of this tobacco. Having now gotten myself some, I can undoubtedly say I'm a huge fan. Lovely sugary sweetness with overtones of baked bread and smooth herbal notes. Read Less

After repeatedly saying I wanted to try this someday and forgetting to buy it, a close friend surprised me one day with my first tin of Erinmore. I definitely think it lives up to it's "classic" status though I admit my own experience is of the more recent productions of Erinmore. I think for fans of a nice mild all-day VA flake, you can't do much better. In fact, this is the blend that made me a fan of flakes. And, after trying many other similar flakes available, Erinmore is the one I come back to as the watermark of a great Virginia smoke. I'd give it 5 stars, but I have noticed that the moisture content does vary from tin to tin and ranges from "just right" to needing to be dried out a little first, but it's always quality tobacco. As for taste and aroma, it has the lighter VA hay notes and is quite sweet. Any VA can bite if you're unfamiliar with how to smoke them, but personally I'd have to try hard to get a bite from this one. I'm not sure what the actual flavoring is, but it's a rather unique taste and never overpowers the Virginias, and while some may call this an aromatic, the flavoring is very subtle and balanced. I can't compare it to earlier incarnations, but as it is today, Erinmore is truly enjoyable. Read Less

I don't understand why this cost more than other VA/Per. It smokes well, good body, but has next to no flavor, and I ended up smoking it all just to get rid of it. Good enough not to throw away, but not good enough for me to buy again. Read Less

Ugh, I hate saying it... It's easily in my top 5 favorite tobacco of all time. If I only had this to smoke for the rest of my life, I would die a happy man. Bit, don't buy any of it because YOU will probably hate it. I'll bear the burden of trying to buy and smoke it all so you guys dont have to. No need to thank me. Just move right along. Escudo is well represented in my cellar and for good reason. This blend ages with the best of them. Although, I really enjoy this blend with just a year of age on it. At this time when you crack a tin it has an incredible tin note of muscadines. The smell takes me back to my childhood and stopping at fruit stands on the side of the road with my mom. The blend not only smells great but it also taste pretty darn good too. The blend supports a wonderful mix of fruit, spice and a touch of hay (particularly when it is young). This is once again a blend I was pulled into by the chatter. Once again the tin note was good, some dark fruit, little hay, smelled intriguing. Once again the smoke itself started out ok, but then by the midway, the casing had burned off and the low quality leaf showed through. It’s these green young Virginias that are a common theme in all these new C&D blends. Windjammer was a similar experience for me. It’s the same thing EVERY TIME, “tobacco pressed and sliced into delicate flakes”. Same presentation, same young leaf with a different casing. Bijou is delicious, but it really needs time in the cellar. The difference between it fresh and aged is like night and day. After about a year in the nice full-flavored, medium-to-full strength blend that is truly blissful. Fans of Oriental-forward blends are sure to enjoy this one. Red Virginias boost the Katerini to delicious heights. A small taste of what is likely a honey topping is detectable. Bijou has a noticeable amount of nicotine; about 6 out of 10. Other blends I've had from the Cellar Series were fine fresh from the tin, and naturally they aged well, but Bijou really seems to NEED time. Read Less
